Quality television production is based on one simple but critical principal: teamwork! We are truly blessed to have such wonderful creative people involved in the production of The New Fly Fisher. Believe it or not, it takes a lot of hard work and coordination to put together a television production of this caliber. Scheduling, accounting, research, editing, field production…there are so many important jobs involved in this production. So we all have to work together as a team to makes this series happen, to ensure it is of the utmost quality in every respect. As viewer feedback indicates, we must be doing it right. Here are some of the key team members who make The New Fly Fisher possible.
Colin McKeown - Producer/Host
www.jencor.caColin has been a fisherman since he was a young boy. A veteran of 20 years service in the military, Colin has been passionate about fly fishing for over ten years. His favorite types of fly fishing are Atlantic Salmon on dry flies and casting grasshopper patterns for Cutthroat on mountain streams. Colin is the producer/director of several documentary series for the Outdoor Life Network, Discovery Channel and most recently, the History Channel. His goal is to help fly fishers everywhere by giving them a top-quality fly fishing series that will make them better anglers.
Bill has been fly-fishing for more than 20 years, and is an accomplished fly tyer, author, guide, teacher, and is one of four FFF Certified Master Fly Casting Instructors in eastern Canada. Bill is the owner of Ontario School of Fly Fishing and is known as the Teachers Teacher. A passionate angler his specialty is stalking trout in the cold water streams of Southern Ontario and the Eastern United States. He is also a keen Great Lakes migratory steelhead and salmon angler.
Phil Rowley - Host
www.flycraftangling.comAt the age of six Phil was introduced to coarse fishing in England and has been hooked ever since. Phil has been fly-fishing for over 25 years and has developed a particular attraction for Stillwater's. His love of fly-fishing has taken him all over North America in the pursuit of trout, Pacific salmon, char, pike, walleye and many other species on the fly. Phil has written for almost every major fly-fishing publication in North America. His contributions also include books and numerous feature articles including 2 regular columns on fly-fishing and fly tying. Phil's first book Fly Patterns for Stillwater's has become a best seller. As a compliment to Fly Patterns for Stillwater's Phil released Stillwater Solutions Recipes Volume 1, co-authored with long time friend Brian Chan. Phil has a number of DVD's including DVD Tying Flies for Stillwater's and 2 recently released DVD's with Jack Dennis and Snake River Books. In early 2004 Phil along Brian Chan released Stillwater Solutions a signature line of fly tying materials and products in partnership with Superfly. In 2007, Phil was a member of the gold medal winning team at the Canadian Fly Fishing championships. Phil travels western North America performing at outdoor shows, teaching a variety of seminars, speaking to fly clubs and conducting weekend fly-fishing schools. Norm Bolen - Host
Norm Bolen got hooked on fly-fishing 35 years ago when he landed his first trout on a remote mountain lake while hiking in Alberta. Since then he's been fortunate enough to fish in many exotic locations. Memorable trips include New Zealand for big Browns and a Montana mountaintop for Golden Trout. Norm grew up in Saskatchewan and still does a wilderness fly-in there every year for monster Lake Trout, huge Northern Pike and eager Arctic Grayling. Norm worked as a journalist and senior executive in Canada's television industry for more than 30 years. As well as hosting The New Fly Fisher, Norm stays involved in television as a consultant and documentarist. He's also the Director of an online video distribution company, mDialog, and is the Chair of the Banff World Television Festival and Co-Chair of the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival.
Brian Chan - Co-Host
Brian attended Simon Fraser University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Freshwater ecology. He has been a professional fisheries biologist for almost 30 years where much of his work has focused on managing literally hundreds of small Stillwater's that dot the southern interior region of BC. Brian's love of fly-fishing has led to the development of a secondary career as an author, lecturer and video producer. Some of Brian's writing credits include "Fly Fishing Strategies for Stillwater's" and "Morris and Chan on Fly Fishing Trout Lakes". Brian has also been a contributing writer to several other fly fishing books such as "The Gilly", "The World's Best Trout Flies" and "Fly Fishing British Columbia". He currently contributes feature articles to several fly- fishing publications. Brian has also produced several instructional videotapes including "Fly Fishing Stillwater's: Chironomid Techniques". For over 15 years Brian has conducted Stillwater fly fishing strategy seminars as well as being a regular speaker at Federation of Fly Fisher conclaves, sportsmen's expositions and fly-fishing club functions. In 2007, Brian was a member of the gold medal winning team and took the individual silver medal at the Canadian Fly Fishing championships.

Tom rosebauer - Co-Host
Tom Rosenbauer has been with the Orvis Company for 34 years, and while there has been a fishing school instructor, copywriter, public relations director, merchandise manager, and was editor of The Orvis News for 10 years. He is currently Marketing Director for Orvis Rod and Tackle. As merchandise manager, web merchandiser, and catalog director, the titles under his direction have won numerous Gold Medals in the Annual Catalog Age Awards.
Tom has been a fly fisher for over 40 years, and was a commercial fly tier by age 14. He has fished extensively across North America and has also fished on Christmas Island, the Bahamas, Belize, in Kamchatka, Chile, and on the fabled English chalk streams . He is credited with bringing Bead-Head flies to North America, and is the inventor of the Big Eye hook, Magnetic Net Retriever, and tungsten beads for fly tying. He has ten fly fishing books in print, including The Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide, Reading Trout Streams, Prospecting for Trout, Casting Illusions, Fly-Fishing in America, Approach and Presentation, Trout Foods and Their Imitations; Nymphing Techniques; Leaders, Knots, and Tippets, The Orvis Guide to Dry-Fly Techniques, and The Orvis Fly-Tying Guide, which won a 2001 National Outdoor Book Award . He has also been published in Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, Catalog Age, Fly Fisherman, Gay’s Sporting Journal, Sporting Classics, Fly Rod & Reel, Audubon, and others. Tom is the writer and narrator of “The Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide Podcast,” one of the top outdoor podcasts on ITunes. He lives with his wife and son in southern Vermont on the banks of his favorite trout stream.
Jeff Pierce - Co-Host
Jeff Pierce (Dr. Fish) has been a diehard fly angler and fly tier for more than 27 years. Growing up in Upstate New York, Jeff averaged 150+ days per year on the water through high school and college. He honed his angling skills chasing species such as Trout, Salmon, Steelhead, Bass, Pike and Panfish. In the late 80's, Jeff got his first taste of fly-fishing the salt and he was hooked. Since then, Jeff has spent as much time as possible in the salt, chasing numerous species such as Redfish, Bonefish, Yellowfin Tuna, Dolphin, Wahoo and Billfish to name a few. For the past 10 years he has been the Sales Manager at O. Mustad & Son, the world's largest hook manufacturer. Among his many duties, Jeff is responsible of all the fly hooks sold into North America. He can be seen tying flies at some of the major fly-fishing consumer shows as well as sharing techniques with anglers coast to coast. In 2004 the Federation of Fly Fisher's honored Jeff with the Silver King award in recognition of his efforts in promoting saltwater fly fishing. He is also a writer and an avid shutterbug.
Krystal Rosien - Production Manager
Krystal joined The New Fly Fisher creative staff in the summer of 2008. She prepares the crews for shoots and locations, organizes administrative aspects and manages postproduction. Alongside The New Fly Fisher, she has worked on television documentary series such as Truth Duty Valour, Combat Forces and Courage In Red. Krystal attended Algonquin College, graduating the Television Broadcasting program in 2008 and prior to that took Print Journalism at Durham College.
