The Bayou State's saltwater fishing is legendary and attracts anglers from all around the worldLocated just south of the city of New Orleans are hundreds of square miles of shallow bayous, ponds, canals, and flooded marshes that hold an abundance of saltwater species such as the redfish. Known simply as “the Delta” this area can be very confusing because it's so very large, thus the need for a competent guide.Along with Red Fish, there are plenty of speckled trout, black drum, flounder, and sheepshead, all of which will readily take a fly.

The rods that are recommended for redfish are 8-9 weight rods that load quickly and are capable of casting long distances. Targeted fish can be within a few feet, or 60-70 feet.
Matching reels with large arbor and smooth drag systems that will hold at least 150 yards of 20 backing are essential.
Floating lines are used almost exclusively for these fish. It's recommended that you use a salt water line that is specific for redfish, as these lines are designed for softer presentations.
