North of Cochrane, amid a sprawling and unspoiled wilderness, lies incredible Kesagami Lake - Ontario's premier trophy northern pike lake. Shallow (averaging 7 feet), stained and rimmed with weedy bays, Kesagami is home to an inestimable number of pike over 40 inches (20 lb) and world-class fish measuring 50 inches (30 lb). Kesagami Wilderness Lodge offers an exceptional level of comfort and services. For more than twenty years Kesagami Wilderness Lodge has been extending warm, north-country hospitality to its angling guests. While at Kesagami, guests choose either private and intimate log cabins or stay in the magnificent lodge with its deluxe staterooms with private washrooms (showers, toilet). A visit to Kesagami is much more than just a fishing trip. The natural beauty of the area, the unspoiled, pristine environment, fresh air, unpolluted waters, abundant wildlife, serenity, solitude and quality time with family and friends make staying at Kesagami a memorable experience.
Kesagami is all about one thing – BIG NORTHERN PIKE! There are Walleye here but most fly fishers target the big pike. They are in shallow water and quite accessible. You can use both sub-surface and surface flies to tempt these leviathans into striking. The attacks are usually fast and aggressive, this is a fly fishers dream!
Big surface flies, worked well, especially saltwater patterns that move lots of water and “pop”. For sub-surface, our favourite fly was tube patterns that resembled perch or walleye.WWW.REELFLIES.CAhas patterns such as Reel Bleeding Mackerel Tube that worked exceptionally well.
These are serious pike and you need a stout rod to turn them and quickly land fish that weigh from 15 to 30lbs! We strongly recommend you use 9-10 weight rods with fast-actions. Match that with a floating line (Pike/Musky tapers such as RIOs Pike line) and an intermediate. Most of the time you will be able to use a floating line. A knotable wire leader tippet is a must in the 30-50lb test.
