Reborn on the southern shore of beautiful Esnagi Lake, adjacent to the Chapleau Game Preserve, Lodge 88 is the north's newest wilderness lodge offering an ultimate wilderness getaway. The remote setting, ultra-deluxe accommodation, first-rate equipment, excellent service and awesome fishing all add up to a winning combination. Your holiday will be an experience to remember and you will be glad to return year after year. Remote Esnagi Lake has been thrilling anglers for years with the abundance and size of their catches for Walleyes, Northern Pike, Perch and Whitefish. Brook and Lake Trout are nearby. The lake has been under provincial protection since 1973 and with only two operators you can be assured you will find your favorite private fishing spot! And should you be interested solely in our wilderness experience there's plenty of nature just outside our door. Lodge 88 is within a one-day drive from most mid-west US or central Canadian cities and is accessible only by float plane or train. In conjunction with our travel partner we can arrange your itinerary from almost anywhere in the world.
Lodge 88 is blessed with a wide range of warm and cold water species. Large Northern Pike and Walleye are fun to catch on a fly in shallow bays and off weedy points. The Pike can grow quite large, many specimens are well over 40” in length and over 20 pounds. There are chunky Brook Trout and Lake Trout in some smaller lakes, which are easy to access. Brook Trout are up to five pounds in size with the average in the two-pound range.
The Pike and Walleye hammered our Deceivers and tube flies. Good colours were white & blue, white & green and any Perch pattern. Tube flies such as the Bleeding Mackeral, available throughwww.reelflies.ca.worked well and were exceptionally durable.
The Pike will test your equipment so it is strongly recommended you bring a fast-action fly rod in the 9-10 weight size matched to a good quality reel with a quality drag system. You should bring flylines that float as well as intermediate sinking and full-sinking flylines (Type 3-5). Wire leader in the 30-40lb test is a must. For the Brook Trout and Lake Trout, you need a 5-6 weight rod with a good quality reel. The Brookies can be quite large and very strong. Ensure you used high-quality tippet material to avoid break-offs. Floating lines, Intermediate lines and possibly a sink-tip will be needed to get your streamers down to the trout.
