Rowan Lake is renowned for its excellent Lake Trout fishing. At Nielsen's even novice anglers can these deep-water fighters without the assistance of fishing guides. In addition to the excellent Lake Trout fishing, Northern Pike, Walleye and Largemouth Bass, as fat as footballs, are also available. But it is the Musky that really draws anglers. World-class Musky! It's just 25 air miles from Nestor Falls, Ontario to our beautiful Rowan Lake camp where 12 ultra-clean cabins with full linens await you. Seven cabins have fully modern baths. A beautiful log lodge and dining room, opened in 1975, provides the extras of icemaker, freezer, tackle and more. The fishing is excellent in Rowan. The lake is noted for Lake Trout but also offers fine Northern Pike, Bass and Walleye fishing, and world class Muskie fishing. We feature the best in 20 h.p. Mercury motors and 16-foot, wide beam Lund boats.
Nielsens is world famous for BIG Musky. Huge and thick specimens that weight well over 40lbs are quite common. As well, Rowan Lake has good populations of Bass, Walleye and Lake Trout. Depending upon the time of year, fly fishers have a good chance of hooking a nice Lake Trout.
The Musky at Rowan Lake loved Orange coloured patterns. Big bushy flies and tube flies worked best. Surface flies, especially ones that can push a lot of water and cause commotion, can work very well – especially towards dark.
For the Musky you must use a stout, fast-action 10 weight rod as these monsters will test your gear to the max. Large arbor reels with quality drags is also a must in order to fight these big fish effectively. This is serious fly fishing for hardcore anglers!
