The waters of Lady Evelyn Lake offer the serious angler a taste of Northeastern Ontario's finest Walleye (Pickerel), Great Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Whitefish and Perch fishing. Don't forget about the 3 species of Trout that also call this area "home". This is one of the last, large lakes in Northeastern Ontario that is still classified as being remote, mainly due to the dam at the north end and absolutely NO ROAD ACCESS. Red Pine is located on the Northeast arm of the lake featuring many sheltered fishing areas and water depths in the 15' to 40' range. No need to hunt for trophies in deep water here. In fact, as large as Lady Evelyn Lake is, most guests stay within a three-mile radius of Red Pine Island for most of their fishing excursions! Enjoy this remote lake's breathtaking scenery as you travel by lake barge and boat launch to picturesque Red Pine Island. Spacious, comfortable and well-appointed cottages accommodate up to 6 adults. A choice of Housekeeping or American plan ensures the perfect holiday. A private dock, with a 16-foot aluminum boat and new 20 horsepower, electric start, 4-stroke motor for every two adults, enhances your privacy and convenience. There are also electronic fish finders on each boat. Our all-inclusive plans include gas, sheets, towels, and food.
Red Pine is a great destination for fly fishers because it has both warm and cold water species. There is great Pike and Smallmouth Bass action. Additionally, on some of the smaller local lakes and rivers, there are lots of BIG Brook Trout. Brookies up to six pounds are caught!
Depending upon the time of year, you will need a combination of surface and sub-surface patterns. For Pike and Smallmouth, foam or wood poppers work well. Streamers such as Deceivers or tube fly patterns are very effective. Wooly buggers work well for Smallmouth and the big Brook Trout. On the rivers, stimulator dry flies worked well as did nymphs such as Prince Nymphs and Zug Bugs. All these patterns can be obtained fromwww.reelflies.ca.
For the Pike and Bass, a 7-8 weight rod is ideal for casting chunky patterns and for quickly fighting them to the boat. For the Brook Trout, we found a fast-action six weight was perfect. Bring both floating and full-sinking flylines for all species, this will give you the versatility you may need to match the conditions.
