VIEWERS FEEDBACK

Subject: Finally a good fishing show!

For me, television is over when the football season ends.  The wife and kids take over as my interest in the tube dies.  This weekend, I got home from a b-e-a-utiful day on the Provo River with a note waiting to turn on the vcr...It was your show!  Thank you soo much for thinking of me!  You must have read my mind.

I do not know what I have missed in previous shows, so I don't know what shows to order.  What I am looking is this:  When fishing wets, I cannot see the fly or drift.  It would be great to get a top and bottom view of a drag free drift using various presentations and techniques.  I like to high stick (short line), but never am I quite confident in what my fly is really doing in the water.  Weighting and rigging the line has also been a struggle for me, and probably related to my previous issue.  How many weights, how to space, size (Bigger or smaller split shots) and distance from my fly are all questions that I am having problems finding answers too and just left to experimentation.  Experimentation is fine but I would love to spend more time catching fish than playing with different rigs on the water.

I also struggle using strike indicators.  I find that they are more trouble than they are really worth when it comes to picking the proper distance from the fly.  If I need to make an adjustment, they do not always seem to be easy to move.  And the kind you can move, do not like to stay put.  Are there strike indicators that operate on an hinge and clasp system?  Something with foam inside that you can just pinch on to the leader, snap shut nice and tight and the foam keeps the line from getting damaged?   I cant find anything like that.
Anyway, thanks for all your hard work in producing a great show.

Thank you for a great series!  I have fished all of my life (mainly salt water) and three years ago I bought a home in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado with spectacular trout fishing.  Not having fished with a fly rod I started with a spinning rod with reasonable success but deep inside wanted to learn to use a fly rod.

This past year I got mad at myself and decided to "get with it".  Quite frankly I found starting most intimidating and many of the fly shops helpful but "not too much so", so they could sell trips and talk you into $1500 flyrods etc.  Fortunately, I had fished long enough so as not to become intimidated with "the right equipment" before you get past the "body piercing" stage but I still needed an education and thank heavens for your show!

With your show and a lot of time on the water I am now catching fish regularly and learning more and more on each outing.  Your shows seem to hit the right blend of complexion without confusion and plenty of shared tips that have proven invaluable for me as a neophyte. I am close to the second largest natural lake in the state as well as a variety of streams and rivers and I have tried all the tips from your show for both fast and still water. I have quit asking questions locally and now have sufficient knowledge to figure things out for myself....thanks to your shows!

As an aside I visited Yellowstone and stopped at Jacklins Fly Shop in West Yellowstone as a result of your show.  While the owner was not in I was treated royally and honestly by the staff and I bought a new outfit from them due to their positive and honest attitudes.

Please keep up the great work particularly showing the graphics of rigs and close-up of flies and streamers and discussions of strategies and techniques.

Thanks again,

Subject: HELLO NEW FLY FISHER!

We have only been fly fishing for about 2 years but are soooooo hooked! We seek out information from any source possible and your show has become our number one source. We love that you give useful information in every episode instead of letting us just sit and watch you catch fish.   You have all done a great job....keep the shows coming! We watch and DVR in Decatur, Texas.

Subject: My two most effective flies

Hello. My name is Jack Sterenberg, I live in Windsor Ontario. I just got cable television in May of  this year and really enjoy your show. I enjoy fly fishing down here in the many farm ponds that we have  along   the 401 highway and  the  many marinas that we have that service  Lake St. Clair  and the Detroit River.

I have to favourite  flies. The  number 12 muddler  minnow  and  the  number 12 black bead stone fly ( rubber legged version )  and  would  like  to  know what " the - book  says that I'm supposed to catch on  those two  flies... just curious  thats  all.  I catch almost everything   that swims  except perhaps   a pike. I would  like  to  have  your  opinion  on  this,  if  you  would be  so  kind.

Thanks  in  advance
Mr.  Jack Sterenberg

I'm from Syracuse, NY and I happen to catch the last 20 minutes of one of your show yesterday Saturday 7/9. You were fishing for browns somewhere in New York State. It drives me crazy on fishing shows to not show the exact location you are fishing, the time of day and the date. I am 36 miles from the Salmon River in Pulaski NY, in my opinion one of the finest trophy fresh water fishing locations in North America for browns, steelhead, and salmon. I recommend to insert every 5-8 minutes on the screen showing a ticker across the bottom of the page showing where you are, date, and time of day. As you know, people are constantly surfing with their TV remotes and unless they see the very beginning they are lost for information. I even waited for the credits to see where you were fishing, and tried to tell by the leaves (or no leaves) even what month you were fishing, but no information except saying it was good fishing in Sandy Creek, Salmon River, and Oak Orchard for fall browns. I know it wasn't the Salmon River on the show only because I'm very familiar with the river. You said fall but that lasts from 9/21 to 12/21. It was a tributary to Lake Ontario but that has over 400 miles of coast land. Anyway, good show and I only wish there were more trophy trout (browns, steelhead, salmon) TV shows and about 1,000 less bass.

Good fortune,
Captain Jack Wilson

I have only recently started receiving WFN, but I really excited about the programming!  I love to fly fish, but I have noticed that most shows are intent on selling an expensive destination for the sponsor that a lot of people can't afford.  I love the instruction that you give.  When I would bass fish, it was the same kind of instruction that Bill Dance or Jimmy Houston would give you.  I look for shows or materials that will help me become a better fisherman.

Thanks a lot!

I am a Canadian Forces member serving in Afghanistan, an avid fly fisherman and a fan of your series. I bought the first three seasons complete before I deployed and they've been a life saver as I have missed out on most of the open water season this year. Your website says you are in your 6th year of production and I am wondering whether that means there are 3 more seasons of shows? If so, will they be available for purchase on DVD?

I fly fish lakes for Trout and Pike in Manitoba and I have enjoyed the lake shows and especially those with Phil Rowley and Brian Chan. I was so mesmerized by the scenery and the Brook trout on the Fortress Lake shows that I went there on my leave this year. It was much better being there in person, but it's still fun to watch the Fortress Lake episodes now that I can tell where you guys were on the lake.

I have leaned a lot from your show and I have even purchased some of the literature you advertise. It's all very informative stuff and I encourage you to keep producing this educational and entertaining series.
